Case studies: Curries made simple

The book "Curries made simple"

It’s really been a family affair for Tasnim Hussain’s Curries Made Simple business – one that has involved her husband, daughter and son!

Tasnim, a schoolteacher in Glasgow, got so fed up with people asking for her recipes, she decided to write her own recipe book. She went to the Women into Business events and spoke to an adviser about how she should go about producing the book.

She set up Curries Made Simple with her daughter Sophina and wrote all the recipes. Sophina designed the book and helped market it, while her husband Khalid and son Yousuf photographed the finished dishes.

The book – spiral bound and laminated to make it easy to use – is now on sale through outlets across Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth, as well as on the Internet.

Tasnim said: “The advice I got from Women into Business really helped focus my mind, as I’d wanted to do something like this for a long time. I got some great help including financial assistance to help us get the book off the ground.

“There’s been a great response to my book. People who hardly ever cook are now making authentic curries for friends and family!”
